James Harrington, the Executive Director is          passionate about helping to identify sustainable solutions for communities in  crisis by leveraging the power of relationships.  Once Again has been  assisting James over the last 2 years by sponsoring their 5K run, which is a fundraising initiative to help install clean water tanks.  This year, Bryan Fritz our new Finance Officer, ran the 5K event enjoying all that the race had to offer, including post-race Once Again snacks.

The North America Fair Trade Stakeholder Council Summit

Last month, Communications Manager,  Gael Orr attended the Fair Trade Summit in Minneapolis.  The Summit worked to address the heated issues surrounding plantation farming. Specifically, Fair Trade has always been about protecting the most marginalized farmworkers.  One of the main fair trade certifiers, Fair Trade USA,recently announced its intention to certify plantation farms. This is highly controversial since plantations are known to further marginalize farmworkers not help them.  The fair trade movement has been up-in-arms ever since.  The summit came together to try and find a peaceful resolution to bring about compliance and   standardization to commonly held values.  The North America Fair Trade Stakeholder Council Summit brought together almost fifty diverse stakeholders to explore how to strengthen the fair trade movement in North America. Attendees represented small farmers in Latin America, (including our very own  Cesar Fajardo  from theJubilee House representing our co-ops in Nicaragua) representative  farmers in the US and Canada, farmworkers in the US, US-and-Canada based food, craft, and retail businesses committed to the principles of fair trade, and Non Governmental Organizations (NGOs) involved in the fair trade movement.

Living Legacy Teen Cancer

Once Again Nut Butter made a special donation to Living Legacy Teen Cancer Foundation (LLTCF), a Rochester charity.  Living Legacy Teen Cancer Foundation is the only charity in Western New York that has a support group specifically helping teenagers cope with the disease. Mary Eggers is a local nurse and athlete who donates her time helping these teens rehabilitate, and provides them with a  fitness program.  Recently, the University of Buffalo decided to bring in seven time winner of the Tour de France and cancer survivor, Lance Armstrong (also the founder of the charity Livestrong) to guest speak at the college.  Ms. Eggers put out a challenge via Twitter to Lance Armstrong to a swim race she called Duel in the Pool to raise money for LLTCF and Livestrong.  He accepted the challenge and together they have raised over $60,000 so far!  Once Again was one of the 5 main sponsors at this event providing a financial donation and a jar of American Classic Creamy Peanut Butter to all the attendees at the Duel in the Pool.  The attendees at the Duel in the Pool came by invitation only and were almost exclusively friends and family members of the  teens who participate in the LLTCF program.   There were a few other people in attendance who were company sponsors, friends of Ms. Eggers and Lance Armstrong.

New Warehouse

Many exciting things have been happening this spring. Thanks to you, our employee-owners have been working extremely hard in production due to a huge increase in our volume!!!  We are very happy about this! Once Again is expanding into a 24,000 square foot building in Perry, New York. This additional warehouse space will increase our storage capacity to better meet customer needs. We are very happy to rent this new space. The building was once occupied by Champion Products. Several years ago, when Champion left Perry, the local community was devastated by job losses. The building has also sat virtually empty for a number of years.  Once Again is excited about renting this space, not just for what it means for our company, but also for all the wonderful things it will mean for the Village of Perry.  Occupying this space will improve the overall appearance of Main St., Perry, and more importantly, will contribute to the local economy.
